James McClean faces a disciplinary tightrope after leaking Wrexham’s undisclosed record signing fee

Wrexham forward James McClean has disclosed the transfer fee for record signing Mo Faal. Faal was among nine new players brought to the club following their promotion to League One for the 2023/24 season.
The 21-year-old joined from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed amount after successful loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Walsall last season.
He scored his first goal in a 2-1 loss to Fleetwood last month and has made two appearances so far. McClean revealed that Faal’s transfer fee was around £590,000 during an event hosted by former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster, despite both clubs keeping the fee confidential.
Wrexham had previously stated that Faal joined for an “undisclosed fee,” and while BBC Sport estimated it was near £500,000, McClean clarified the exact amount.
Under manager Phil Parkinson, Wrexham has made a strong start to the season, currently sitting at the top of League One.
With recent signings like Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham United and Arthur Okonkwo from Arsenal, they are aiming for a third consecutive promotion. Following a setback against Birmingham City, the team bounced back with a solid win over Crawley.
“It was a tough afternoon for us,” said Parkinson. “In the first three games of the season at home, we have been excellent.
“Today, we didn’t reach those levels with or without the ball, and we caused our own problems certainly in the first half by putting them on the counter attack.
“We have had games like that before here where you don’t play at your best for whatever reason and it is up to my staff and myself to look for those reasons.
“It is about getting the result and finding a way to win, and we have done that today, with a terrific cross and great finish from Max (Cleworth).
“I said in the build-up that I didn’t want to talk about being top too much because if we weren’t, I would be saying the table doesn’t work itself out till 10 games.
“Of course to win all four games at home in a higher division is amazing from the lads.”
