Mike Tomlin says Steelers will make ‘necessary changes’ following third straight loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a critical moment in their season after suffering their third consecutive loss, this time to the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Mike Tomlin is adamant that changes need to be made, stating that the team’s current performance is “not good enough” and that they need to “own that” ¹.

Tomlin emphasized the importance of fundamentals, citing the team’s struggles with turnovers, red-zone defense, and situational playmaking. He acknowledged that the Steelers have been outplayed, outcoached, and outclassed in their recent losses ².

So, what changes can Steelers fans expect to see? Tomlin hinted at making schematic changes rather than personnel changes, given the late stage of the season. On offense, this might involve reverting to a more ball-control approach, which helped the team get off to a 4-2 start earlier in the season ¹.

Defensively, the Steelers need to address their struggles in pass defense and generating turnovers. The team failed to record a single sack against Patrick Mahomes, despite the Chiefs’ injury-depleted offensive line ².

  1. Tomlin’s commitment to making necessary changes is reassuring, but the team’s ability to execute and adapt will be crucial in their remaining games. As linebacker T.J. Watt put it, “We need to work more… We just need to get back to work” ³.

The Steelers still have a chance to turn their season around, but it’s clear that they need to regroup and refocus. With the playoffs on the horizon, Tomlin’s adjustments will be closely watched. Can the Steelers bounce back and make a deep postseason run? Only time will tell.
